I’ve researched a lot of environment photos from northern Norway (specially Finnmark, where I grew up). I’m especially studying the colour contrasts to see what Áillun’s colours could be to match these. I want her colour to be in harmony with all the seasons.

I’ve looked at pictures of Sami too, from different places, and different times in history. They all have different clothing, depending on occasion and where they’re from (Place and time).
I want Áillun to be a sharp contrast from the rest of the school and the people who bullies her. The school bullies are mostly other Sami, but they have been converted by the Norwegian government to become ashamed of their family roots and language. Áillun is the opposite, and I’ll also use colours to show this difference.

Could she be a boy instead?
To this point, I’ve grown accustomed to the fact that she’s a girl and I like it for many reasons. I feel like I can understand her better since I’m a girl myself and she’s very much like me when I was younger. I also like the fact that a normal little girl can be the “hero” for a change, she’s even a Sami girl.
How many Sami heroes can you find in 3D movies? I’ve only found 3 Sami (not exactly heroes) in the movie “Slipp Jimmy Fri” – but that’s it.

But while I’m on the boy theme:
I’d like her to be a little tomboyish (like me again). This goes with her troublemaking personality at school. I’m also thinking she likes activities that mostly Sami boys would attend (but also a lot of girls today); like driving a snow scooter, “reindeer sleigh race”, herding reindeer using a lasso, extreme skiing, hunting, ice fishing etc. – a lot of ideas for poses here!
